Bandung is really cool, and we’re not just talking about the climate. It’s home to some of Indonesia’s most innovative artists, with creative art spaces dotted around the city. One of the highlights is the NuArt Sculpture Park, which exhibits the creations of national sculptor Nyoman Nuarta. The lush 3-hectare park is designed to give the space and environment needed for quiet contemplation, and is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. We have many other recommendations for independent art galleries, so just let us know if you’re interested.
To experience traditional Sundanese culture, a visit to Udjo's House of Angklung is a must. Udjo’s House of Angklung is a cultural centre for children and youths to learn and practise traditional Sundanese arts, especially the angklung, a musical instrument made of bamboo. The highlight of a visit here is their highly enjoyable cultural show, put on daily by their students.
Batik is one of Indonesia’s most recognised art forms, and something that you can pick up during your stay here. A Javanese phrase for the mystical experience of making batik is "mbatik manah" which means "drawing batik from the heart". We work with an established batik company, and can arrange for one of their experts to teach you how to make your own batik. So let your heart take control, and express yourself through batik!
